The C5 GSM Remote Control board is typically used for access control on external gates and garage doors.   A free call (the call is never answered) to the SIM card number from a registered telephone number will open your gates or garage doors.  There are no keyfobs or PIN numbers required giving ultimate flexibility as to who has access to your property.  The system has space for storing up to 512 numbers.

Programming is performed remotely either using a web-browser or by SMS text using real word commands like 'add' and 'remove'. There are no annoying passwords to remember as you are identified to the system by your mobile number. This can be done on any device; PC, Mac, iPhone, Android phone etc... If it has a web browser like Chrome it can be used.

Using the web-interface the history of calls received and other events can by viewed.  This includes the time of the call and whether it was valid.

 

The system incorporates a 7-day timer which allows the gate to be opened at a set time each day.  For each day there are up to 2 time periods where the gate is open i.e. Monday 8:00-9:00 and Monday 17:00-18:00.  The timer can be programmed remotely using a PC or by using SMS text messages.

 
By default the # relay is operated by calling the unit and the * relay is operated by SMS (using 'on' and 'off'). Texting 'open' pulses the # relay and texting 'close' pulses the * relay. These PCB's can be used for gates and shutters with both and open and close connections as well as controllers with just a single open/close input.
A complete list of accepted telephone numbers can be viewed via SMS text message. Sending ‘CSQ’ in a SMS text to the SIM card number will return the signal strength which should be greater than 8 for a reliable connection. The No Signal LED will flash once per second if the signal is less than 11.
A ‘master’ (admin) phone number must be set to control the dialler.  There can be several master numbers.  Whilst the jumper is connected, the ‘master’ command will be accepted and you will be able to set up a new master number.
The SIM Fault LED lights if the device cannot use the SIM; check the orientation of the SIM and remove all PIN numbers or set them to 0000
The No Signal LED lights when no GSM signal can be found; check the aerial is fitted correctly. The LED will flash when the signal strength is less than 11. Keep the aerial away from wires and metallic surfaces.
The Network Fault LED lights when there is a problem with the network service. This is normally due to the SIM not having sufficient credit.
 
SMS SET-UP
From your mobile phone send an SMS text to the device’s SIM card’s telephone number
Master me     …sets your number as an admin number
 
The dialler will reply with a link to your unit's webpage which can then be used to set up further telephone numbers and email addresses.
The master phone can also be used to add more telephone number with call access using the ADD command
Add 07123456789.
 
To remove a Master, User, Call Number or Text Number from the memory use the REMOVE command as follows:

To see all of the numbers in the memory the LIST command is sent as follows:

By default, calling the SIM card telephone number from a valid phone number will operate the # output relay for 2s. To change the pulse period the RLYTIME command is used:
Rlytime# 10.   (10 second pulse)
 
To alternate between the # and ∗ relays on each call, the channel command is used

To switch the # and ∗ relays indefinitely the on/off commands are used as follows:
         
on#     …indefinitely activates the # relay (normally holds the gate open)
on∗     …indefinitely activates the ∗ relay
off#     …indefinitely de-activates the # relay (normally closes the gate)
off∗     …indefinitely activates the ∗ relay
open     …this operates the # relay for the period set by rlytime# (pulse)
close     …this operates the ∗ relay for the period set by rlytime∗ (pulse)
 
To most messages, the device replies with a web-link to the device’s main control webpage.
We strongly recommend using an O2 PAYG Classic SIM
To check the balance available on the SIM the web-link must be active* (requires a data connection). The balance will be displayed on the main page. Alternatively it will be available on the history page (select network messages).
 
If you are not using O2 PAYG then you must force the network to send the balance to the device using the DIAL or SMS commands (depends on network) e.g.

Please note the board is supplied with a suitable antenna and 10cm SMA cable only.
 
The enclosure is available as an option.
Anything else I need to know?
All PCBs are supplied with a quad band stub antenna and a PCB to aerial connector cable (~15cm long). Anrtennas should be mounted outside of metallic enclosures. The PCB connector is a U.FL connector and the aerial connector is a standard GSM SMA connector shown below (should an extension cable be required).

GSM products do not work on the 'Three' network as they are UMTS only.
Our optional sticky backed antenna makes installation quick and simple however this can only be mounted on non-metallic thin surfaces. Various antennas are available from our wesbite - please see 'Accessories'.
 
For indoor appplications the PCB fits into the Hammond 1591B enclosure.
